October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that labor market participation for persons with a disability is at only 20.6% of the total disabled population compared to 68.7% participation for those without disabilities. This makes October, designated National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), a perfect time to provide education related to disability employment issues.

NDEAM is aimed at providing information and starting conversations about employment opportunities for differently-abled individuals at all levels from local areas of employment up to and through federal agencies.

This October, NDEAM is leading the way with their new theme “The Right Talent, Right Now” to celebrate the contributions of workers with disabilities and explain the value of a workforce that includes their skills and talents.
